Denmark is said to be the oldest continuously ruled kingdom in the world. The lineage of the royal family can be traced back to King Gorm who was a king of Denmark back in 10th century and probably died in 958a.c.
The fact that Denmark is a Royal Kingdom can nowadays obviously be seen as something of an anachronism
But by most Danes the royal family is regarded as a somewhat amusing and colouring element in an otherwise boring and trivial everyday life
And maybe the European Union and disapearing family values are the reasons why some Danes love their Queen, Queen Margrethe II, and the royal family, as symbols on those old lost values: the nation and the family.
BTW: The year of 2004 was a very special year for the Danes because the son of the Queen and the heir to the throne was getting married to his fiancee.
You will always be able to find a lot of hullabaloo and gossip about the Royal Family in some of the danish coloured magazines.
The Queen and the Royal Family also has their own homepage where you will be able to find further information and pictures
